Over the years many pesticides has being developed in the quest to reduce mosquito in the environments, but yet, mosquito seem to be multiplying every day by day. And just as the malaria parasite tends to evolve in order to evade most drugs, mosquito itself is also evolving likewise to evade some of these pesticides used to check them. And as a result, new drugs and pesticides need to be developed to tackle the issues posed by mosquito. But another problem with getting an active pesticide is, the tend to be a bit expensive for some people that can't afford to be buying them regularly. If you’re a mosquito magnet, you’re probably tired of having itchy, bumpy skin.Different species of mosquitoes like the ones that carry malaria prefer bacteria and sweat. Others are attracted to carbon dioxide and certain hand odors.
Foods that can serve as a natural mosquito repellent
Lemon eucalyptus oil: A recent study showed that a mixture of 32 percent lemon eucalyptus oil provided more than 95 percent protection against mosquitoes for three hours. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have approved eucalyptus oil(an oil found in Lemon) as an effective ingredient in mosquito repellent.Garlic and Onions: Garlic is perhaps the most well-known food linked to deterring mosquitoes. Garlic and Onion have a phytochemical known as Allicin, which is released through your pores when you consume it. Allicin interferes with your natural scent, therefore helping to mask you from those persistent pests.
Apple Cider Vinegar: The strong smell of apple cider vinegar is known to repel mosquitoes and some other bugs. You can take advantage of its repelling action by simply wiping some on your skin. But, if you consume apple cider vinegar regularly, the scent may naturally come through your pores.
Milk: The enzymes in the milk powder will help neutralize the insect-bite venom.
Thyme oil: thyme oil is also one of the best at providing protection against mosquito. In one animal study, 5 percent thyme oil applied to the skin of hairless mice provided a 91 percent protection rate.
Lemongrass: Lemongrass contains an oil known as citronella, which is well known as a natural bug repellent that is generally applied to the skin or used in other forms. Eating lemongrass has been shown to provide similar protection as well.
Chilli pepper: chilli pepper are known to contain a phytochemical called capsaicin. capsaicin is responsible for the burning sensation felt when we take chilli pepper. Capsaicin is an irritant for both mosquitoes and other bud. In addition, mosquitoes are repelled by the smell that you release upon eating capsaicin containing foods, so they steer clear.
